Through its various incarnations since its conception in 1968, The Putnam Institute for Space Opera Research (P.I.S.O.R.) has committed itself to the quest for transcendent mind-body energy fields created through the magnification, concentration, manipulation, and decay of all forms of visual and sonic stimulus. These stimuli may include but are not limited to the following: cosmic scratching.

The Putnam Institute for Space Opera Research also strives to:

• Present the findings of P.I.S.O.R. researchers as they discover new mind-body energy fields/sources and reveal artifacts previously lost through time and neglect to all who dare to be brave enough to seek them out and revel in their possibilities.
• Promote the efforts of P.I.S.O.R. researchers and artists.
• Provide lessons, books, and illustrations by P.I.S.O.R. artists and writers whose works can be successfully absorbed in the privacy of one's own home.
• Acknowledge the possibilities for "knowledge-insight" that is contained within and existing beyond what is currently understood as the limits of human imagination and experience.
